A cyclist challenges snowy road conditions in Tokyo.

It rarely snows in Tokyo, and when it does there is little in the way of organised clean up.  Most cyclists have very little experience cycling in such conditions and as a result it took almost 3 days from the snowfall last Monday before cyclist numbers returned to normal.

  1. They should be very cautious traveling on this kind of road. Snow is very slippery, brakes would not be effective with this kind of condition. Accidents would be very prone with this kind of weather.

  2. We stayed in Tokyo for a couple of years and yes it rarely snow there and if it does, it gave us an excuse to bring out those skates and sled.

  3. Winter can never take the fun away from bicycling. It's twice the excitement, but also twice the risk of danger because of the slippery grounds. It's good to know that some countries are prioritizing the safety of their cyclists, because in their areas, it's the most popular means of transportation.

  4. We snowed too during our vacation in Tokyo a few years ago. But we basically stayed in our hotel room most of the time and wasn't able to experience biking in the snow.
